If you're a procurement manager sourcing coconut oil in bulk for the first time, here are the questions worth asking before you commit to a supplier — and why each one matters.
Is this a manufacturer or a trader?
Traders resell oil sourced from various manufacturers, which can mean inconsistent quality batch-to-batch. A manufacturer with its own production unit generally offers more consistency and more direct accountability.
What FFA level do they quote, and can it be verified?
Ask for the specific FFA figure for your order, not just a general "high quality" claim, and ask whether it's independently testable.
What's their actual production capacity?
For recurring bulk orders, ask about daily and monthly capacity, not just whether they can fulfil a one-off order.
What packaging formats do they support?
Retail pouches and canes are common, but bulk/tanker packaging capability varies supplier to supplier — confirm this explicitly if you need it.
Are certifications relevant to you actually confirmed?
Don't assume "certified" claims apply to the specific standard you need (FSSAI, ISO, organic, etc.) — ask for documentation.
Can you visit the facility?
A manufacturer willing to host a facility visit is generally more transparent about their actual production setup than one who isn't.
